How To Use Creativity To Improve Your Life

“Are there still original ideas in the world?”

“They beat me to that bright idea; what else can I do?”

“I’ve failed many times before that I can’t think of anything else to solve this problem anymore.”

In all its diversity, these statements reflect the mindset of an individual who has given up on creativity. Sadly, many people share this mindset. They never viewed creativity as a tool to improve or improvise in life.

A situation that requires a solution can be approached in a variety of ways. In order to solve a problem, creativity opens up new horizons, which can deliver a number of benefits. However, creativity can sometimes be misinterpreted as obstinateness. Some people consider insisting on doing things differently a sign of stubbornness.

Every individual has the freedom to interpret ideas in his or her own unique way. Interpretations themselves are creativity at work. Individuals who enjoy creative thinking are often able to come up with innovative solutions to problems.

Imagine your car stalled on a deserted highway due to a leaky rubber hose on the cooling system. Tough luck!

If you have some chewing gum in your pocket, you might be able to fix it. You can patch the leak with gum and tie it with a rag to keep it in place. This quick fix might work so that you can drive several miles without an overheating engine, until you reach a service station where the leaky hose must be replaced.

A popular television series titled “MacGyver” starred an extremely creative and resourceful character. Whenever he found himself in a tight spot, he would use available materials around the house to devise quick fixes.

The creative process is a never-ending learning process. From learning, you gain untold benefits, which you can put to use in your daily life.

When it comes to being creative, you might have to think outside the box, venture into the uncommon. Until you try your ideas, you cannot be sure. As long as there is no perceived danger involved, it will always be worth it.

The field of science, in whatever discipline you choose, is the field of invention. Without creative minds, science would have been a barren wasteland of knowledge.

Most adaptations to improve or improvise aim to improve current conditions. Upon analyzing honest applications of creativity, it is clear that the ultimate intention is to achieve good for all and to build lasting peace. This intention is what really matters.

Erich Fromm spelled it out clearly, “The conditions for creativity are: to be puzzled, to concentrate, to accept conflict and tension, to be born everyday, and to feel a sense of self.”
